Hockey Shinguards

Shinguard Sizing and Fit
Shinguards are the primary protection of the knee cap, calf, and shin of the leg. They range from 7" all the way to 15" and are designed to lock the knee in the kneecap, while the shin guard ends just above the top of the skate. Generally speaking, forwards prefer more streamlined, less bulky sets to compliment their manuverability, while a defenseman may prefer a larger or more protective model. When the kneecap of the shin guard is centered on the knee, the calf padding should wrap around, protecting this area from harm.

Hockey Shoulder Pads

Shoulder Pad Sizing and Fit
A hockey shoulder pad fits well when it provides protection to all of the following areas: Chest, Ribs, Back, Collar Bone, Shoulders, and Upper Arms. Shoulder caps should rest comfortably on the shoulders of the wearer. Ideally, you want a shoulder pad that has padding that extends just to the top of the elbow pad to minimize unprotected areas. Make sure that no part of the shoulder pads restricts any natural movement you may have. Make shooting motions, raise your arms above your head, etc to determine if there are any pinching points, uncomfortable spots, etc. This may be a sign your shoulder pad is too large or too small.
Forwards prefer morestreamlined sets of equipment to keep their agility high, while defensive tend to want a bulky shin guard to help with the abuse they can take.

Hockey Elbow Pads

Elbow Pad Sizing and Fit
One of the trickiest peices of equipment for players to find a comfortable pair on is elbow pads. It is also one of the most important, so getting the profer fit for the elbow pads ensures both maximum comfort and protection. Elbow pads in higher models protect the areas around the elbow as well, such as the upper forearm and sides of the upper arm. They can easily spell the difference between a painful fall and a painless one. Most elbow pads are adjustable and secured with velcro strapping, making sizing in some ways easy and other ways confusing. The biggest issue is finding a pair that does NOT slide up and down on your arm as your playing: They should always be locked in place. Elbow pads also have a tendency to pinch arms in certain spots if the fit isn't correct.
